Following on from the many albums created during the COVID months is the light, bright, breezy and immensely enjoyable Winds of Change from David J Pena. His piano pieces have been carefully expanded with the use of orchestral backing making this an album to enchant and delight.
Each piece is cheerful, full of energy, offering a fresh perspective on the months and years to come. As with all cataclysmic events, they will eventually pass, leaving in their wake, sorrow, lessons learned and, in many ways, clearing the old out to make way for the new. Winds of Change is very apt for this time of immense change taking place throughout the world.
Homecoming commences the work with a softly gentle piece that is full of welcome, arrival, beginning which is further enhanced with the jaunty piece The Arrival; yours to construe as you will, but a piece filled with joy and light. Thoughtful and considered is the piece Remember When, taking a retrospective moment to reflect, to ponder and be thankful.
Winds of Change part way through the album is a slight change as it commences with the soft sound of water lapping the shore, peaceful yet never still, showing that change is a constant of everyday life. Almost sombre, it a reflective melancholy which is in itself quite beautiful.
Moving right along is the up tempo piece Windy Shadows which bounces along, capturing the gentle wind that helps clear out the shadows of the past that have been drifting about the unconscious mind for some time. Refreshing and captivating this track offers a freshness of change that is beckoning.
Once again Wise Men’s Journey is a slow, reflective piece that offers a moment in time to give some serious consideration to the past journey, to begin constructing the pathway forward before arriving the final piece Take Flight a lively, confident piece that simply says now is the time to fly, to welcome the Winds of Changes, to grasp the moment with both hands and embrace every moment that flows through your life.
Overall a joyful, happy, lovely and most enjoyable album that leaves behind fresh hope, a light heart and a seriously ’feel good feeling’.
