Creating a delicious balance between work, rest and play.
Can you have it all: a career, a family and some precious time for yourself as a working woman in the fast-paced world of today? Yes, you can, says Danielle Colley, a former journalist amongst other things, as she has walked the pathway, fallen into the very pit of despair and found a way back up to achieve a lifestyle that achieves all those aspects of modern life.
She is now a life skills coach, speaker, event facilitator, writer, mother and wife who generously shares her life experiences and learning through many mediums, reaching out to people who feel they are stuck, overwhelmed and facing burnout.
The Chocolate Bar Life is her first book and is in many ways an autobiography of her journey to this point in her life whereas a mature woman, she can say she has the issue of creating a workable and happy lifestyle, nailed!
In her straightforward style, Colley tells of her struggles as a young mother facing post-natal depression, coping with two small children, becoming separated with no money of her own in the bank to fall back on and no job!
With some guidance from her father, a can-do attitude, a refusal to give in and a natural ability to ‘hustle’, she took a short course in magazine writing and eventually became a proper writer, landing a job share position with the prestigious Australian Woman’s Weekly, as well as having her own Blog.
Over the years since then, she has lost jobs, gained jobs, invested time and effort into Studying within the holistic health field, faced burnout issues, coped with a diagnosis of adult ADHD, the death of her father, the declining health of her beloved mother and developed her career pathway towards a more comfortable lifestyle.
Divided into four sections with the first one looking at the sticky mess that can be life, before moving on to parts two to four which guide you carefully and with much-learned wisdom, towards the work, rest and play sections, which so many busy people have neglected, but need to rediscover.
Referring to life as a Mars Bar, that rich, indulgent and delicious chocolate bar beloved of many, may seem a bit farfetched, but the reality is, it can be but there is serious work to be done to be able to get to the gooey, caramel section in the middle.
Each chapter ends with two sections designed to be thought about: Tasty Bites which picks out the salient points from the chapter with where you possibly are followed by Tasty Notes which offer you ways to manage these points and move ahead.
Straight to the point, immensely entertaining, and at times heartbreaking but always realistic, The Chocolate Bar Life is a book that can only be beneficial to your lifestyle, and help you over the hurdles, leaving you with a feel-good vibe and a can-do attitude!
