The Month of Love: February 2022 – Astrology with Rachel Lang

993

February is an exciting month, and many of our big storylines of 2022 will start to take shape right now. After Mercury goes direct on February 3, all planets will be moving forward. So, expect some momentum for things you’d like to see evolve at this time.

The big highlight of the month is the US Pluto return, and while I know many of you live in other countries (a big hello to my friends at Conscious Living in Australia), this transit will have a ripple effect on the global economy. Pluto makes a full revolution, returning to the same place every 248 years. Each time a planet returns to the same degree of the Zodiac, we see similar themes. The US started with the American Revolution, which was our early founders’ aim to separate from financial entanglement with England. We could see themes of financial entanglement with corporations, economic justice, and debt.

Because everything is moving forward after February 3, we’ll see a lot of action this month. Plans that have been in the works for some time will get the green light, though this could mean erratic movement for some. It could also mean a build-up of energy that releases all of a sudden.

February is the month of love, with Valentine’s Day right in the middle. This year’s Valentine’s Day could be a story of “They love me, they love me not…” Venus and Mars are dancing with one another all month long. Both are in the sign of Capricorn, which is a sign that takes things seriously. The two meet up on February 16, which could mean commitment in relationships.

I often see this situation in my practice — just before a couple makes a commitment, all of their resistances come up to the surface. Sometimes, they go through a shake-up right before a significant turning point in their relationship. I like to think it’s our way of validating a decision to stick together. We grow through conflict, and it can be cathartic. I could see these types of situations happening throughout the month. Venus and Mercury will be going direct but still in their post-shadow phases. We want to be moving on, but we are still finishing business.

Mars steals the show this month as it moves through Capricorn. It makes contact with most of the outer planets, leading up to a conjunction with Pluto on March 3. ?

  • 2/4 Mars Sextile Jupiter
  • 2/6 Mars Square Chiron
  • 2/8 Mars Trine Uranus
  • 2/16 Venus Conjunct Mars
  • 2/23 Mars Sextile Neptune
  • 2/25 Mars Square Eris
  • 2/28 Mars Trine North Node

Mars is an activator, and it kicks up energy for moving forward. After starting the year with Venus and Mercury going retrograde, Mars wakes us up to what’s possible for the year. At the same time, if your ideas and plans aren’t in the best interest of yourself and others, you could see a green light toward struggle. Don’t act on an impulse or disrupt something good. We can see conflict or violence with Mars transits, especially Mars in aspect with Eris and Pluto, but remember, conflict can instigate change.

The Leo Full Moon on February 16 highlights relationships of all kinds. Because Venus conjoins Mars, we’re moving beyond polarity and differences in relationships to find common ground. We’re thinking more in terms of collaboration than in opposition, but we are also understanding the importance of asserting ourselves with others. We’re also learning to balance contrasting energies within ourselves — balance is the keyword. Both relationship planets are in the stable sign of Capricorn, and it wouldn’t surprise me if we had new commitments this month.

The Sun enters Pisces on February 18 for one of the most interesting Pisces seasons in our lifetime. With Jupiter and Neptune moving through that sign, we’ll become more in touch with our dreams and more spiritually aware.

ARIES (MARCH 21 – APRIL 19):

After Mercury stations direct on February 3, all planets are moving forward! If you feel turbo-charged and ready to go, you’re not alone. It is a time for manifestation, and where attention goes, energy flows. So, tune out those self-defeating or worrisome thoughts. Instead, keep your mind on the outcomes you desire in work and relationships. I think of the analogy of walking on a crowded sidewalk. Have you ever noticed that people tend to step out of the way when you focus your eyes on where you’re going? Try it sometime and see! It’s easy to get distracted when you have this turbo-charged energy; keep your eyes on the prize.

February brings us fully into 2022, and the New Moon on January 31 helped us close the last year’s chapter. On February 4, Mars forms a favorable sextile to Jupiter, helping inspire your health-related goals as well as your career ambition. You have a bounce in your step and some extra confidence. As Mars moves toward Pluto (a transit that perfects on March 3), you’re learning more about yourself as a voice of authority. It’s a time to own your brilliance and shine, especially if you’ve considered speaking or teaching.

The Leo Full Moon on February 16 inspires a creative idea. The Leo/Aquarius axis line emphasizes individual expression within the community. It’s an invitation to work with your gifts in a way that feels playful. What can you do to relax more in the middle of the month? How can you make time for enjoyment?

This Full Moon also highlights romance, and perhaps love is a key to relaxation. Move any resentments aside and drop your defenses with others for a few days. At the end of the month, forgiveness makes space for a new chapter in your love story.

TAURUS (APRIL 20 – MAY 20)

Your ruling planet, Venus, is moving forward again, ending its 40-day retrograde cycle. If your life has felt like a comedy of errors, you’ll restore balance this month. All obstacles clear, allowing you to accomplish more than you’ve been able to do since late December. At the same time, things could feel unsettled as we steady ourselves after the retrograde periods. Therefore, keep the word “flow” in mind as you move through the month.

The Sun’s motion through Aquarius challenges you to grow and stretch. However, it might disrupt your state of equilibrium around the time of the Full Moon on February 16 as you weigh responsibility with freedom. It’s time to rethink your obligations. What can you take off your plate? Delegate what you can, and free your time for what most nurtures you — creative outlets, social time, or rest.

The Sun enters Pisces on February 18, and your curiosity leads you into fortuitous encounters. Spark conversations and enter collaborative processes with your work or volunteer efforts. It’s safe to dream about something you’d like to bring to fruition. Those visions may be glimpses of what’s to come (with Jupiter in Pisces) and not empty wishes.

Venus and Mars meet in Capricorn on February 16, emphasizing relationships. Mars and Venus represent two relationship impulses – the urge to act upon our desire (Mars) and the willingness to be a magnet for desire (Venus). Action and receptivity. Recognize the power in both – you don’t have to fight to pursue someone’s attention, and you don’t have to wait for a call. Find a peaceful place in your core and let it be a supportive structure.

GEMINI (MAY 21 – JUNE 20):

If you sit still and close your eyes, you can hear a round of applause from loved ones and helpers in spirit. Their hands are raised in congratulatory gestures like fist pumps and high fives! You’ve done it! You’ve passed yet another threshold of personal growth and success. Phew! That was a lot. The North Node was moving through your sign all through 2021, making it a year of defining your purpose and outgrowing your limiting fears. Now, it’s in a new phase, and so are you. On February 3, Mercury goes direct, opening the road and clearing anything in your way.

The Sun in Aquarius encourages exploration. While travel may not be an option, what ways can you follow your curiosity and find adventure? You could try playing tourist in your city, for example, and see some of the sights you’ve never seen. Your mind is hungry to learn, and there’s nothing like the novelty of something new to inspire your imagination. On February 14, Mercury enters Aquarius and lends support with writing, research, or work projects.

The Leo Full Moon on February 16 shines a spotlight on social networks, marketing, and communications. It is an excellent time to strategize the next steps or formulate a plan in business. Your words have power; use them with care. If you have a pitch or interview, stay focused on your main points.

On February 18, the Sun enters Pisces, turning your focus to career. Aim high if you are pursuing a new path. Jupiter’s shining in that sector most of the year, lending some optimism to this area of your life. There’s power in asking for what you want.

CANCER (JUNE 21 – JULY 22):

In the movie She’s Having a Baby, outside the church on his wedding day, Kevin Bacon’s character asks his friend, played by Alec Baldwin, “Do you think I’ll be happy?” Baldwin’s character replies, “Yeah, you’ll be happy. You just won’t know it.” Can you relate? In five years, will you look back and think of the beauty of this moment in your life? Pause to appreciate where you are, knowing you can simultaneously celebrate the present and hold the desire for a different future.

Around Valentine’s Day, you have money on your mind. This month’s astrology emphasizes a concentrated focus on collaboratively building wealth. In all partnerships, money plays a part in power dynamics. If you and your partner experience financial incompatibility, the full moon in Leo on February 16 illuminates solutions for working together as a stronger team.

On February 18, the Sun enters Pisces, and you enter a period of manifestation. The intentions you’ve been hoping for the last two years are becoming a reality. There’s power in receptivity, yet it’s humbling when things come together in ways we can only attribute to supernatural influences. Allow those influences to work in your life in mysterious ways. Let luck and fortune surprise you. Let miracles inform you you’re not alone in this world. Magic is a theme at the end of the month, but it’s also your main storyline throughout the year.

LEO (JULY 23 – AUGUST 22):

With Valentine’s Day approaching, the beginning of February is all about the heart. We have a physical heart—the muscle that pumps our blood — and a heart chakra, an energy center that connects the physical and spiritual dimensions of love. Over the past two years, Saturn, the planetary authority figure, has been moving through your opposite sign, pressuring you to make commitments and work to redefine yourself. Try this exercise at the Leo Full Moon on February 16 – meditate on your heart center. Feel love as if it’s a mantra, and return to that feeling if your mind starts to wander. Any worries on your mind will quiet when you lead with your heart; do so through sensation.

Relationships will be a theme throughout the month, and if you’re single, follow Damona Hoffman for expert relationship advice! In a recent interview, she talked about the importance of establishing measurable goals for dating as you would for anything else you’d like to manifest. How many dates would you like to go on per month? You have power over your destiny; own it!

The Sun enters Pisces on February 18 as a source of inspiration. Dream, wonder, and create. If you have a project you keep procrastinating, make it a priority, especially on February 23, when Mars flows harmoniously with Neptune. Saturn’s influence offers you the discipline you need to take a slow and steady approach without growing frustrated. You’ve moved through resistance and fear, and you’re ready to shine your light for all to see – the light that emanates from your heart.

VIRGO (AUGUST 23 – SEPTEMBER 22):

Completion is a spiritual discipline. As a child, I procrastinated every time I had a big deadline or presentation for fear of getting something wrong. My mom used to say, “If you can do this, you can do anything.” I offer this same message to you, Virgo. After February 3, all planets are going direct, meaning it’s time to finish what you started. More importantly, complete what you most fear to begin. Every time we sit down at our desk, work out in the garden, or show up at the theatre for rehearsal, we enter into meditation. So, think of what you most resist but what you know you need to do. Develop a disciplined plan for implementation.

Venus shines in earthy Capricorn throughout the month, and finances feel more relaxed than they’ve been for the past 40 days. Venus and Mars will be dancing side by side throughout the month and meeting in a conjunction on February 16 and March 5, making this a time to share your ideas with others or generate support for a cause. You have a magnetic draw; maintain healthy boundaries, so you don’t do too much work or become overwhelmed by helping others.

After February 18, the Sun shines in Pisces, the sign of compassion. Love yourself enough to accept your past. See it as an epic tale. If you feel regretful about any decisions you’ve made, rewrite those chapters of your story. How can you reframe them so that you, the protagonist, triumph? Try this exercise on February 23, and you could end up with a start to a bestselling book.

LIBRA (SEPTEMBER 22- OCTOBER 22):

Your ruling planet Venus is dancing with Mars off and on all month, and being that these are the two relationship planets, you can imagine love is a big theme for your month. I’ve heard you can only love another as much as you love yourself, and I used to argue against this perspective. “I don’t always like myself – I’m so self-critical. I’ll do more for others than I do for myself…” Does this sound familiar? There’s a difference between love and codependence, and this month helps you separate the two. Love yourself enough to accept yourself, no judgment! Love your past, live in the present, and value yourself enough to see a bright future. Then, be your own Valentine!

The Sun makes its way through Aquarius, and you could feel invigorated passion about aspects of your life that once felt dull. It’s a motivating influence driving you to expand your gifts and find new ways to share them, perhaps through writing or performance. Indulge in beauty through gardening or making art. Be with children to inspire your sense of wonder. Play.

The Full Moon on February 16 highlights friendships, encouraging you to be honest with yourself about boundaries of time and space. Be aware when your fear of disappointing others leads you to self-sacrifice, and course correct in the moment.

On February 18, the Sun enters Pisces and introduces a time of mystical exploration. Consider alternative healing modalities for physical conditions. Everything in our physical lives has spiritual and emotional correspondence. Healing on physical levels shifts the energy enough to allow for illumination. In general, it’s a good month, and you’re moving ahead. Keep going!

SCORPIO (OCTOBER 23 – NOVEMBER 21):

Think of Saturn as the archetypal father of the Zodiac. It’s that inner voice of authority we hear when making decisions or staying on task. Saturn has been challenging your sign for two years, and you’ve worked hard to create more stability for yourself and your family. You’ve had to do some deep soul searching about ways to make life more satisfying. This month, Saturn encourages further growth, leading to discoveries in how you’ll leave more of a mark. After February 3, all planets are going direct, and you have the momentum to act on any insights you receive.

Stay focused on your top goals. You’re laying the groundwork for professional success in accomplishing goals you’d like to manifest over the next ten years. Dream big and be willing to take a step-by-step approach. Jupiter in Pisces indicates the flow of goodness and luck. You can expect a favorable outcome for your hard work.

The Full Moon on February 16 is a guiding light to illuminate solutions for life’s work and family challenges. Balance is a keyword with this lunation, as it activates ongoing tensions you’ve had throughout 2021. You could feel stretched in different directions and more aware of others’ needs. Find time for yourself in the midst of it all.

You are in a spiritual catharsis with behind-the-scenes work happening. If you feel tired, give into rest. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself to do it all. It’s easy to underestimate the amount of energy it takes to create real and lasting spiritual change, and that’s what you’re doing.

On February 18, the Sun enters Pisces, and you get a reprieve. You’re entering a magical season, and new life abounds in ways you might never have expected. It’s a good time for romance, too. If you’ve had communication challenges in your relationships, a Mars sextile Neptune transit on the 23rd helps clear the air. You don’t have to fight. Stand in your truth and trust that you will be heard.

SAGITTARIUS (NOVEMBER 22 – DECEMBER 21):

As a fire sign, you were born to take action — to have a dream and move forward without fear. For the last three weeks, Mercury Retrograde has slowed things down, leaving you to question decisions you made last year. Well, congratulations! You’ve mastered your test of faith, and I have good news. After February 3, all planets will be going direct, making this a time for action! As the Sun makes its way through Aquarius, let yourself be inspired. Allow yourself to fall into opportunities, and be open to sharing your ideas with others, perhaps even on stage.

This month’s astrology encourages writing, learning, or teaching. Your active mind wants to be challenged; learn something new and engage it in ways that push you hard enough to stretch those mental muscles.

Travel is another thing on your mind this month, especially at the time of the full moon on February 16. Let’s think about the symbolic meaning of travel. After all, everything in our life can be considered a metaphor for inner growth and spiritual development processes. When we travel, we open ourselves to the unknown. the novelty of experiencing new cultures and landscapes pushes us beyond the comforts of our everyday lives. When we’re in unfamiliar territory, our egos relax their grip, and we open to magic. Travel, then, isn’t just about seeing new places and experiencing new things. It’s also about the freedom we experience when our egos relax to allow in the supernatural. Of course, we can achieve this without getting on a plane, like in states of deep meditation or reading a book, for example. However you decide to welcome the unknown, make it the top priority.

On February 18, the Sun moves into Pisces, setting a mystical tone for the end of the month. It will be a Pisces season unlike any other and lead to divine inspiration. Be open and receive messages from unexpected sources.

CAPRICORN (DECEMBER 22 – JANUARY 19):

Finances are the big theme for you this month. You’ll be examining the different facets of your relationship with money. As part of this exploration, you’ll do some deep soul searching about the intimate relationship between love and money, better understanding the power dynamics in your relationships and how they relate to success. Remember your inherent worth and challenge any unhealthy beliefs about value being measurable by socio-economic status. The Full Moon on February 16 offers a breakthrough in shifting these beliefs. The result? You can relax and allow success to flow into your life more easily.

Both relationship planets (Venus and Mars) are moving through your sign this month, and they meet up on February 16, making this a day for love. I often think of love in the context of the Lover’s card in the tarot deck. More than being about relationships of self and others, its symbolism alludes to the power we have when we integrate polarity within ourselves, meaning we balance our dark and light. Then, we are better creators, shapers of destiny, and healers of the world. At the end of the month, how can you reclaim parts of yourself that have been hidden? Love your whole self, and see what changes in your relationships.

The Sun shines in Pisces after February 18, making the end of the month a time to express ideas through words. Establish new foundations in your local community, and connect with others to manifest a shared vision. You are a natural leader, and others will notice your resourcefulness and vision.

AQUARIUS (JANUARY 20 – FEBRUARY 18):

My grandma Alice was one of my favorite people. She was born on February 14, fitting for someone who exemplified unconditional love. Alice had an Aquarius stellium, and upon first meeting her, people thought she was cool, detached. But she wore this giant heart-shaped necklace that nearly blinded you if it reflected the light in just the right way. I like to think that was her way of showing the world who she was – all heart. All love.

As I write this, I’m permitting you to love in the big, whole-hearted way you do. The act of loving may be slightly more transformative for the lover than the one who’s loved. It is an elevated state of being, and it’s one of the ways you change the world. Your sign rules the circulatory system, and you were born to radiate love into your community and beyond. Limitless. Passionate. Caring.

It is your season (until February 18). It’s your time to circulate. Mercury enters your sign on February 14, inspiring ideas and new ways of thinking. It’s a favorable time to reframe some of your limiting beliefs or change any unproductive, critical inner dialogue. The Full Moon on February 16 encourages consciousness-raising through social interactions, like rituals. You have the momentum for making moves in your life. With all planets direct after February 3, nothing’s stopping you!

The Sun enters Pisces on February 18, which could mean the start of a new financial opportunity. Own your brilliance, and then you will feel more confident when pursuing leads. Professional changes could manifest, and they could lead to personal shifts as well. Stay open to the possibilities.

PISCES (FEBRUARY 19 – MARCH 20):

On February 18, the Sun enters your sign and kicks off a Pisces season unlike any other. It is a magical time for magical people like you. As someone who wrote a book about magic, I define it as the creative force alive in us that urges us into a wonderous relationship with all life. It’s a time to relax and be in the flow of life—to let yourself receive guidance and follow synchronicity. You’re being led down a path of miracles, even if you can’t see the unfoldment of it all right now. Be patient. Mercury goes direct on February 3, and all planets will be moving forward. You’ll start to catch your stride around the time of the Leo full moon on February 16.

On Valentine’s Day, Mercury enters Aquarius, inspiring your imagination. Your challenge? Wanting to do too much at one time. Focus on the one thing that will bring you the deepest sense of satisfaction. Prioritize your life by identifying the people, places, and things that energize you versus deplete you. As Mars engages with Neptune on February 23, you can establish boundaries to protect your energy from those depleting influences.

Friendship is a theme with Venus and Mars moving together through Capricorn this month. The two meet up on February 16, signifying a shift in relationship dynamics. If you’re single, this could mean a move toward the direction of love. If you’re in a relationship, you and your partner could have meaningful interactions with others that help rekindle your spark. It’s Valentine’s Day season, after all.

The Full Moon on February 16 spotlights health. Balance work with rest and maintain a healthy diet. Magic works best if it’s embodied and grounded. Spend time in the Sun for a natural source of vitamin D.
