People struggling to find holistic solutions to weight problems  often believe that curing their health problems is impossible or too expensive.

Dr Sandra Cabot with over nearly 40 years of medical research and clinical practice has identified 7 strategies to  address the problem of weight gain.

I am sure you know people who seem to overeat, but manage to stay slim, and others who seem to eat very little, but remain overweight. This is because body weight and body shape are greatly affected by genetic, metabolic, hormonal and medical factors, and not just by how much a person eats every day. What we eat is often more important than how much we eat.

I have found that it is not the diet alone that needs to be considered, but the other individual medical problems that may be sabotaging even your best efforts at following a healthy diet, no matter whose diet you follow. Yes we need to look a little deeper into our health in much the same way as a detective would solve a mysterious case. Let us find the missing pieces to the jig saw puzzle so that we can see the overall picture and begin the holistic approach that leaves no stone unturned. Only then are our chances of success very high.

Natural ways to reduce hunger and keep the hunger gene switched off or down regulated

·         Limit your intake of sugar and high carbohydrate foods like flour, pasta, potatoes and breakfast cereals.  Eating these foods triggers your pancreas to release the hormone insulin.  Too much insulin is a bad thing because it promotes fat storage and fluid retention, but insulin also makes you hungry.  People with high insulin levels become very ravenous and they have strong cravings for carbohydrate rich foods.  If you get hungry, but do not need to eat, try Synd-X Slimming Protein Powder mixed with unsweetened milk in a blender. Synd-X powder contains extremely high protein and virtually no carbohydrates and also extra taurine and glutamine to help metabolism in the liver. It tastes sweet because it is flavoured with stevia.

·         Eat plenty of protein and good fats.
Ea   Eating protein at each meal is a great way to keep you full and satisfied for hours.  Protein helps to keep your blood sugar stable and prevents dips in blood sugar that leave you in search of the cookie jar.  Protein powder smoothies are a convenient, delicious and healthy way of boosting your protein intake.  Synd-X Slimming Protein powder is made of whey protein, stevia, glutamine, taurine and chromium.

·         Try to keep calm.  Cool, calm and collected people rarely binge eat.  Stress is one of the biggest factors that take people off the rails when it comes to their diet.  Many people use eating as a coping mechanism to deal with difficulties in their life and unpleasant emotions such as loneliness, guilt, grief or anger.  Seeing a counsellor can help and so can supplements of tyrosine and magnesium to balance brain chemistry.

    Fine-tune your thyroid

In those with a weight problem the function of the thyroid gland needs to be fine-tuned and optimized. Just being in the normal range may not be enough to kick start a sluggish metabolism!  Low thyroid function is often a missed diagnosis.  This is because the reference range for TSH has changed to 0.2-2.5 mlU/L, which means that many people who have been told that their thyroid is fine, can now be classified as officially hypothyroid. Unfortunately many labs still report the normal level of TSH as up to 5 mU/L.

Taking supplemental selenium 100mcg, zinc 5mg, iodine 162mcg and vitamin D 1,000 units daily can boost the thyroid. Deficiencies of iodine and selenium are very common and can cause sluggish thyroid function and weight gain.

In people with thyroid resistance, the addition of T3 tablets can be dramatically effective and enable the patient to lose weight much more easily. Thyroid tablets from dessicated pig’s thyroid glands are sometimes used and were the only type of thyroid treatment available during the early 20th century; they are still popular today.
