In 2000, Dr Denis Anderson achieved international acclaim for discovering the deadly Varroa destructor mite that’s wiped out bee populations around the globe. Australia is the only country in the world to resist the Varroa Destructor mite – a pinhead-sized insect that has devastated bee populations around the world the past 30 years.

Every year millions of Australian bees are put on a plane and flown to places like California to pollinate crops where all the wild bees have been wiped out.

Keeping honeybees healthy is so important because if the world’s bees disappeared, we would starve within five years as they pollinate a large share of our crops.

Dr Denis Anderson has taken it upon himself to save the European honeybee. He’s teamed up with Australian company my honeybees(http://myhoneybees.com.au/) to raise funds to support his  foundation. These funds will be used for research to help Dr Denis create a new strain of honeybees with inbuilt protection against the Varroa Destructor mite. If successful it would ensure the survival of the European honeybee in Australia and around the world.

This partnership was designed to bring new light to this scary issue. There is a significant lack of awareness in Australia although the issue has made global headlines.

Honeybees donates $2 from every pair sold to Bees Downunder.  They can be purchased for $29.95 on www.myhoneybees.com.au
