David Darling passed from this world in 2021, leaving a legacy of music which will remain forever as a tribute to man who was more than an incredibly talented cellist.
David Darling was a man who used inspiration to offer fresh pathways into the world of music and held firm to the belief that the world needed help in this day of environmental change; he used his music to transcend barriers, to create an awareness of the world ever-changing.
Reverence has been created from many pieces Darling created over his lifetime, filed away, but for one reason or another never seeing the broader light of day. Mickey Houlihan, his long-time producer, and friend, has created this tribute as a work of love and respect for a man who pushed barriers, changed the way music was taught, was filled with inspiration, was stubborn, creative and inspirational.
Commencing this fascinating collection is Water Dragon with a deep dreamy ambience that sets the scene for the works to follow before moving into the beautiful For The Love Of Oceans that has an accompanying video, which perhaps tells more than anything about his deep love of the oceans and waters of the world.
The ethereal Water Mirror is enthralling and captivating, short but perfect in its attitude as is the deeper-toned Emergence a thought-provoking song with a softly persuasive rhythm that lifts the spirit and entices the emotions into delight.
Entering is a work which intrigues; what where Darling’s thoughts, emotions and inspiration when he created this song; this we will never know.
The tenth and final track new age music –I Don’t Know Yet is reminiscent of music that could be found in a vast Cathedral, Abbey or Church, a piece that leads into meditation, that seeks spiritual guidance, offering solace to the seeker, the journeyman. Beautiful, gentle and definitely inspired by a higher dimension, it is the perfect piece to conclude a sublime collection.
Reverence is a journey of discovery created from many pieces, some complete, others still a work in progress. Many musicians, family and friends helped bring this fitting tribute to creation in honour of a man, his music, and his legacy to all.
