Off Grid Solar Powered

Our house is passive solar and is powered by a 3 kilowatt solar system with a battery bank. The stove cook top and fridge run off gas. There is a back up generator if the batteries need to be replenished but this is not usually required unless there has been a lot of rain and cloudy days ie in winter. We ask our guests to be conscious of the use of electric applicances eg use the washing machine and the vacuum cleaner during the day and not at the same time and make sure to turn lights off when not in use.

Water is supplied from the rain water tank and there is a water filter for drinking in the kitchen which just needs to be filled up periodically. We therefore ask our guests to be mindful of conserving water by having short showers. Hot water is instantaneous gas heated . The wood fired stove heats the oven and cook top while warming up the house at night . Temperatures drop down at night in Denmark and it often rains so having the wood stove burning makes the house lovely and cosy. There is plenty of dry chopped wood and kindling under the house and on the deck .
We also have a caravan which would suit 2 – 3 children or a couple.
and there is space in the downstairs lounge to accommodate one more bed if required.

Guest access

You will have access to the entire 94 acre property including the orchard and you are welcome to pick any fruit that is ripe. Please make sure that you shut the orchard gates and the main gate to the property when you go in and out so the horses don’t get out.

The Neighbourhood

There are 3 beautiful scenic drives from our property into Denmark town and the nearby world famous Greens Pool

1. The Scotsdale Scenic Tourist Drive follows the route of early timber cutting days. From the centre of town by the Denmark River follow follows Scotsdale Road for 20 km. You might like to stop and enjoy the beautiful Harewood Forest walk trail and call in at the many wineries, art galleries, cheese factory, Alpaca Farm and attractions along the way.

2. Turn left out of our property and drive to the corner of McLeod Road turn left and you will pass by several farms where you can buy eggs from their roadside stalls and Langs where you can buy freshly picked spray free vegetables . Then you reach the South Coast Highway, where you turn right and, after a short distance, turn left into William Bay Road – and so on to the end of the drive at the famous Greens Pool in the William Bay National Park. This wide, tranquil bay is sheltered by giant granite boulders and is ideal for swimming, snorkelling or just relaxing. While you are there, walk around to Elephant Rocks and Madfish Bay.

3. Turn turn left off McLeod Road into Shadforth Road and take this stunning drive up through the rolling hills to the top of Mount Shadforth where you can have a great view out to the inlet . Then you will come down this scenic drive past wineries and restaurants to reach the centre of town.

4. You can also drive into town by going down McLeod Road to the South Coast Highway turn left and enjoy the magnificient karri trees and landscape passing famous wineries and restaurants .
